Peter thinks that Sirius is so very clever, sneaking sweets into class like that. He can see smudges of black sugar on Sirius's lips, and he imagines the inside of Sirius's mouth, all inky stains and hot, secret caves. Peter's never had a sugar quill; Sirius says he's too fat to eat sweets.

Of course, if Peter were clever, he could find out how they tasted. He'd wait until all the boys were asleep, dreaming about bright, fluttering things. Then he'd turn into Wormtail, and he'd scurry over to Sirius's bed - pitter-patter, pitter-patter, all across the shadowy floor. Just a quick clamber up the bedposts, and he'd be in! With a whiskery sniff, he'd follow the scent straight to Sirius's mouth.

And then.

He'd be marvelously subtle at first: just a wee lick with his pink rat-tongue. Perhaps he'd spot a sugary dribble down Sirius's chin, and Peter would clean it off, nice and neat and oh-so-sweet.

But sugar quills taste far too scrumptious to stop there. He'd take a tiny nibble of Sirius's lips, and another, burrowing into the deep tongue-caverns where pools of liquidy darkness lurked. He'd drench his nose in the luscious warmth, guzzle it down, devour every morsel. Perhaps Sirius would wake up then, but he wouldn't say "Go away Peter," oh no, not that time, because he wouldn't have any mouth! Wouldn't that be funny!

But Peter - Peter's not clever, nothing like Sirius or James. So perhaps he'll never know how they taste, after all.

finis.
